In New York State, to have a document notarized, you will need to present valid identification that meets specific criteria. The ID must be government-issued, current, and contain a photograph, signature, and physical description (or age). Acceptable forms of identification include:

  1. Driver's License or Non-Driver ID Card: Issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) in New York or another U.S. state.

  2. Passport: U.S. or foreign passports are acceptable as long as they are current and include all necessary information.

  3. Military ID Card: Issued by the U.S. armed forces.

  4. State ID Card: Issued by a state government for individuals who do not have a driver's license.

  5. Permanent Resident Card (Green Card): Issued by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.

  6. U.S. Federal Government ID Card: Such as a U.S. Department of State ID or a federal agency-issued ID.

  7. Foreign Driver's License: Accepted if it is issued by a recognized foreign government and includes a photograph and signature.

The notary public will examine the ID to verify your identity, ensure that the photo matches your appearance, and confirm that the document contains all required elements. It's important to have an ID that is not expired, as expired IDs are typically not accepted for notarization purposes.

Always check with the notary public before your appointment if you have any questions about acceptable forms of identification.

A mobile notary public is not an attorney and cannot give legal advice.
